For the Flax Network team today is a wonderful milestone; their Chia fork has crossed 1 EiB of netspace over night. It is an incredible accomplishment to have gotten their coin to that much netspace, possibly a truly secure PoST blockchain. Based on my conversation with their developer they never expected Flax to blow up like this, but it has. One of the major off-chain pools, Foxypool, even has a pool starting up to farm Flax.

I have been thinking a lot about “why Flax” recently, and I think what will make the most sense is as a UAT environment for Chia software. Before launching something on-chain for Chia and putting valuable XCH at risk permanently a developer can launch a DeFi application, or some other Chialisp wizardry and run it on the Flax chain with real coins and real users before deploying it to the Chia blockchain.
Thank you to a few of my readers for reaching out about this. This is clearly of interest to the community considering how rapidly people were messaging me on Discord and Telegram when Flax crossed the threshold. If I were the Chia Network development team I would be paying very close attention to Flax, possibly also work with their developer to ensure their update windows stay tightly coupled. Supposedly another sketchy fork, Chives, is launching tomorrow so its good to have one honest fork to point to when discussing the less honest ones.
Why do you say Chives is sketchy and Flax isn’t? Have you read the whitepaper? Please keep an open mind and don’t give people a negative opinion unless there is a good reason.
Especially when your linked Chives article says it doesn’t appear at all sketchy!
If you look at the bottom of the Chives article I do call out some sketchy behaviour. I didnt edit the body of the article upon discovery of that.
All crypto is sketchy, get over it.
It’s why criminals have fell in love with cryptos since 2014, its almost like everybody who graduates from prison becomes a crypto enthusiast
…
Chives launched today for real, the prior stuff wasn’t real, because their were no operational peers, now its a GO. Right now at 150TB, Goji is at 280PB;
U can lead a horse to water, but u can’t make him drink.
The interesting thing about Chives is its 100% chinese, and they’re doing it their way, which makes very different than the Chia-CLone way.
What I find interesting about chives is their reward system, they have a payment system that if they stay on schedule should make Chia look like a mouse, like everyone who posts on twitter, reddit, ….yada with a favorable article about chives get the coin, … its going to be a nightmare of noise.
