Costa Rica and Chia Network have just announced via press release that they will be partnering on an open source software platform to share with other nations in order to improve the management of their climate inventory software. This announcement comes just days after the announcement that the World Bank had selected Chia as their blockchain technology partner for the Climate Warehouse program. Both of these programs are in support of the Paris Climate accord.
The Government of Costa Rica selected Chia as an open-source partner due to both its technical software and open-source expertise, but also the platform’s commitment to secure, sustainable, inclusive blockchain technology and immutable data storage. This is a critical step toward robust, transparent cooperation on climate action focused on environmental integrity.
Andrea Meza Murillo, Minister of Environment and Energy of Costa Rica
This kind of partnership is exactly what the people who have been interested in Chia are hoping to see – environmentally sustainable blockchain development. Chia seems to be firing on all cylinders this year at COP26, and these are pretty major announcements. Chia Network seems pretty excited too.
We are honored to partner with Costa Rica, the recognized leader on climate action and driver behind the Paris Agreement, as another key link to an open-source blockchain as a tool for the greater global good. Realizing the platform’s potential in partnership with the Government of Costa Rica has been one of our most exciting ventures to date. We hold the Country’s leadership in the highest esteem and are committed to continuous management, delivery and access to nations reshaping their climate initiatives.
Gene Hoffman, COO and President Chia Network
There are certainly a ton of details about this project that aren’t known yet, and before anyone gets too excited this is a plan to develop something – not the release of something usable. It is a big deal, but do not expect nations to be deploying Chia nodes this week to start testing software. I do plan on discussing this with Chia Network in more detail and getting some technical information for the community about what this will mean.
