The Nucle.io team has been hard at work expanding their Chia wallet support, and are happy to announce that they have launched the Android version of their product. This is really exciting, and if you want a mobile wallet with the blessing of Chia Network, this is your bet. Go check it out here.
The Nucle team has prepared the following for the Chia Community and I am happy to share their words here. I am a big fan of the project, and I have had enough conversations to know that they are the real deal.
The time has come, Nucle mobile app is finally live! Nucle is now available on the Google Play store, with the iOS version under app store review. Go download today!
Why a delay?
I want to quickly address why the delay in the release of the Nucle mobile apps. It mainly comes down to two reasons: security and speed. Security because there are many small changes we had to make to ensure the algorithm we use for encryption is stored only on your local store for your device so your private keys remain private. Second, speed because the optimizations we made to make Nucle fast on iOS took a lot longer than expected. Add speed and security on top of QA, UX issues, and AppSec reviews and you get to where we are at today. The good news is that iterative development going forward should be much faster-paced for us.
Where Open Source?
I noted this in our update announcement earlier this week, we were planning to have open-source readying to go 10/31/2021 but the ‘dust storm’ caused us to reprioritize a couple of items. Now that the mobile apps are out, we’ll get the backend open-source of the Nucle web app published ASAP. Please see the previous post for more details. Also, the web app code has been cursorily reviewed by the Chia team for vulnerabilities and was found to pass the bar and the mobile apps are based on the same code
What’s the future of Nucle?
We are committed to growing the Defi platform for Chia. After publishing the open-source, we’re full steam ahead on getting ready for CAT support with Nucle V2 once the CAT standard is published by the Chia team. They’ve been hard at work on it and we’ve been working with our team to prepare for it as well. We’ve also got a few surprises up our sleeves for Nucle V2 which we think will benefit the entire Crypto ecosystem. Look for more news on that once we get further along on development with our partners.
Nucle Chromium extension is also high on our todo list and will launch around/after Nucle V2 for CAT support.
Try Nucle on Android today and iOS in the coming days
Nucle.io team
I find it pretty interesting that the dust storm had such an impact on development, both here and at Chia Network. I suspect the load test and fee requirement would have made the original launch almost useless if it couldn’t send transactions. Really good idea to delay and get it right. Too many software teams would just launch and say “oh well”.
Congrats to the Nucle.io team. Please go check them out if you want a wallet that doesn’t take forever to sync. I cannot wait for their to be real, secure competition in this space.
Edit: Appears they had a snafu with the Google Apps deployment process, I’m told something to do with signing keys. It should be up very soon, they have had it working in beta for a long time now. If you see a white screen that will be resolved shortly. It has been resolved.
