The other day the VP of Storage at Chia Network, Jonmichael Hands, sat down to chat with Digital Spaceport and I about Chia and some of the storage initiatives they have. I have to be honest here, I was very out of it from medication and probably should have just skipped the call but JM did a great job carrying the conversation and Digital Spaceport did a great job editing out the worst of my rambling so the end result is actually very good.
The topics I am most interested in that Chia is working on from a storage perspective is the Circular Drive Initiative and the 1 Click Farming they have promised. The CDI is an industry group founded by Chia and partners to combat the immense wastefulness of hard drive storage seen in the name of data privacy and security. 1 Click Farming is something they have teased that will allow for a lot easier deployment of farming resources, with a system profiler that will determine the best place to plot and store plots. It sounds really neat and I can see a lot of places to even improve on that idea, which I do mention in the video.
You should really check this out, as I said Digital Spaceport does an exemplary job in making sure i don’t ruin the thing and I must apologize to JM, he truly does give it a professional interview on this subject. I have rarely met two people so excited about weird storage tricks and strange HBA firmware problems. I think that’s what makes Chia special in the crypto world, the inclusion of people who are genuinely excited by the technological differences between Proof of Work and Proof of Time and Space.
